    Default Lost and Found?

I know this is a long shot, but I'm trying anyway. Yesterday, Monday 3/12/12 I climbed Washington, and boarded down from the summit. I ended up leaving my ice axe behind on the summit. I was sitting by the big wall leading to the observatory entrance. It is an old Chouinard axe with a straight blue fiberglass handle. It belongs to my Dad and has more sentimental value than anything. I can't believe I was careless enough to leave it behind. I was kind of rushed off the summit, because I had grouped up with some skiers. If any of the observatory staff found it, I'd be willing to hike up again to get it, or pay for shipping, or pick it up at the auto road base station, or anything else really.
    Thanks
    Tom

No one at the Observatory saw your axe. I just checked the "wall" that I think you were referring to and didn't see anything. I will check again at daybreak though. And I will double check with State Park in the morning to see if they may have found it. Hopefully someone turned it in or found it but no promises...

I checked with State Park and none of them found anything nor did they get anything turned in. I double checked with everyone here at the Obs and nothing was seen. I also walked around every building up here since you "wall" description was vague and I just wanted to thoroughly double check (and do some hiking in my down time this morning). But no results. So, the last thing I would recommend you do is call Pinkam Notch front desk and see if some honest hiker turned it into them. Sadly though, stuff like that easily grows legs up here as I have had some of my stuff stolen that was lying out while working up here. But, hopefully that's not the case.

    Best of luck!

There is a new Lost + Found forum on www.vftt.org (it allows anon posts). Also, www.newenglandtrailconditions.com has a place for lost and found items in trail condition reports - so you can post a report there, and/or look for reports subsequent to your trip.
