Question Foliage in the Franconia Notch

When driving through the Franconia Notch on 26-June, I couldn't help but notice that it looked like early autumn in the general vicinity roughly between Boise Rock and Exit 34B.
Does anyone have a possible explanation for this. Could the recent roadwork in the Notch somehow resulted in damage to the foliage??

Hmm, I was going to suggest maybe drier than normal conditions. But since it is only in a small area....?

I never want to see a day
    That's over forty degrees
    I'd rather have it thirty,
Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEEeeze!
