Took Lions Head Summer up to the Summit & descended via Boott Spur. Here are the photos....

Initially I planned on taking Boott Spur all the way to the summit & back down again. I was at Pinkham Notch ready to go by 6 a.m. but decided to wait till 6:30 to see if anything changed. I went in & asked if there were any trail changes. Thats when I found out the summer route was open so I took the summer route up & Boott Spur down.

I used my crampons & ice axe on the snow traverse. I probably could have bare booted it but I felt more comfortable using my crampons.

You're lucky. About 4 years ago and one week earlier I left Pinkham well before 6am and climbed the winter route up Lions Head. There was zero snow. Just dirt and tree roots. On the way down I noticed the trail signs had changed and I was now on the summer route. A few hours after I left they had changed the route, it was not pretty.

How long did the trip take you?

I started at about 7 am. I took a nap on the OBS deck & then descended. I took my time on the descent & frequently stopped to take in the views & take photos. I got back to Pinkham Notch at about 6 pm.

Awesome pictures!! Saturday was just beautifull... I can't wait to come back to the Whites.
