A Lifetime of Attitash Skiing & Riding up for Auction, MWO to Benefit

Former Attitash director John Blake donates four lifetime Attitash passes to the Mount Washington Observatory

NORTH CONWAY, NH – A day pass is good. A season pass is better. But how about a lifetime ski pass?

Standish, Maine resident John Blake, a former director of Attitash ski area in Bartlett, has donated four Attitash lifetime ski passes to the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. Blake and the current Attitash management team have each authorized the Observatory to offer the rare lifetime passes up for auction on the popular Internet auction site, eBay.

The passes were listed on eBay on Thursday afternoon and bids will be accepted until the 10-day auction comes to a close on Sunday, December 23.  The opening bid on each of the lifetime ski passes is $6,500.

“While it’s difficult to put a dollar value on a donation like this, we’re anticipating that the total impact of Mr. Blake’s gift will be in the ballpark of $30,000,” says Scot Henley, Executive Director of the Mount Washington Observatory. “The timing of his donation is perfect, allowing us to make them available to the public just before the holidays and while the ski season is off to a fantastic start.”

Mount Washington Observatory receives its funding from a variety of sources, including a large portion from individual donors.

"In this fiscal year, I estimate that more than a quarter of our gross income will be obtained through individual donations and membership dues. That amounts to a little under $500,000. The sale of these lifetime ski passes will bring us much closer to that goal, and we are very grateful for Mr. Blake’s generosity. There are four skiers out there that are going to be pretty grateful as well.”

The four lifetime Attitash ski passes up for auction can be found by going to www.eBay.com and searching under “Attitash”.
