MWO Club Level Members Enjoy a Perfect Fall Foliage Hike
Posted: October 1, 2006
Saturday, September 30 was a picture-perfect autumn day in the White Mountains of New Hampshire-- frosty morning, colorful leaves and warm afternoon sun. On this spectacular day, a group of Mount Washington Observatory "Club Level" members and Observatory staffers gathered in Pinkham Notch to hike the beautiful Pine Mountain Loop together.
The hike set off at about 8:45 AM and climbed through the colorful forest up to the exposed summit ledges of Pine Mountain, which afforded sweeping views of Pinkham Notch, Carter Notch, Mount Madison, the towns of Randolph and Gorham, as well as the white-capped, fog-shrouded peak of Mount Washington. Participants came from as far away as coastal Massachusetts and central Vermont to join in the fall fun.
After the hike, the group gathered at the Dolly Copp picnic ground in Pinkham Notch for a classic bar-b-que, with marinated chicken, burgers, and salads. The event was capped off with assorted pastries from North Conway's "Riverstones" bakery-- not a bad way to end the day!
This event is the first in a series of special gatherings for Mount Washington Observatory 's "Club Level" members. Club Level memberships begin at $125/year at the "Summit Club" level, and earn members access to unique events and exclusive member premiums. The next Club Level member event is a pancake breakfast and guided snowshoe hike, scheduled for January 13, 2007. The annual President's Club Social, exclusively for members of the Observatory's President's Club, takes place on Saturday, November 4 at the Lake Winnisquam home of Observatory President Ken Jones.
