Gary Plant Named Chief Financial Officer of Mount Washington Observatory
NORTH CONWAY, NH – October 1, 2012 – Mount Washington Observatory has named Gary Plant its Chief Financial Officer. In a move with the full endorsement of the organization’s Finance Committee and Board of Trustees, Plant has been promoted from his previous role as the North Conway-based nonprofit organization’s Director of Finance.“We’ve made great progress over the last several years in building a more professional organization, operating a more financially-sound business and advancing the work of this important nonprofit organization, and elevating Gary Plant to this newly-created leadership role is a tremendous step forward for the Mount Washington Observatory,” says Scot Henley, Executive Director.
“The demonstrated commitment of the Trustees, staff and volunteers to the organization is impressive,” says Plant. “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the Observatory while helping to promote its overall mission.”
Plant joined the Observatory staff as Director of Finance in the fall of 2011, bringing with him over two decades of finance and accounting experience from the government, for profit and not-for-profit sectors. Plant has served in varied capacities including as a financial institution examiner for the FDIC, as assistant controller for one of Maine's most financially significant non-profit organizations and as an adjunct faculty member for his alma mater, Saint Joseph's College of Maine. In addition to a BS in Accounting, Gary is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania and successfully completed the Uniform CPA Examination.
“Gary possesses a depth of business knowledge and accounting skill that an organization of our size and complexity truly requires, and he has made a significant positive impact on the organization since joining the team a year ago,” says Henley. “I look forward to working with Gary in this new, much deserved leadership role.”
