Echo LakeEcho Lake, Franconia Notch, White Mts., N.H. A bright mountain lake 1800 feet above the sea lies under the purple ledges of Eagle Cliff that are mirrored in the smooth water. Echoes from bugle or voice leap from cliff to cliff far up the great ravines.
The PoolThe Pool is a feature caused by peri-glacial erosion of Franconia Notch. From about 1853 to about 1887, it was frequented by "The Philosopher", who would (for a fee) give summer tourists a ride in his small boat and share with them his theories on the nature of the universe.
