The NHSGC is one of a network of 52 university-based Space Grant Consortia nationwide. The program is funded by NASA, whose mission includes supporting science and engineering students, providing public service, and offering K-12 science education programs. The Observatory joined the NHSGC in 2006 and is one of nine current affiliates in New Hampshire.
The Observatory uses the resources provided by Space Grant to provide research internships. To date the interns have focused mainly on data entry, error checking, database work, and analysis of both the Observatory's historical climate record and the regional dataset being developed as part of the Alpine project. Each intern is provided the opportunity to work at the summit for a week to learn the aft of taking detailed weather observations. Opportunities to gain hands-on experience in other areas are offered when possible. For example, the Spring 2007 intern spent a month in Cape Verde during the RHaMBLe field campaign.
